Who's voice is it?

"Why are you crying? Who is it you are looking for?"

Thinking it was the gardener, she said, "sir, if you have carried his away, tell me where you have put him, and I will get him."

Jesus said to her, "Mary."

She turned toward him and cried out in Aramaic, "Rabboni! (which means Teacher).

-John 20: 15-16

Have you ever wondered if it was God's voice you were hearing or not. Sometimes I wonder why I notice certain things. This morning as I was taking the dog out I noticed a lady who seemed to be bent over picking something up outside, yet for some reason it seemed strange. I took the dog in and went back out to find and older lady calling for help. The woman had fallen on the ice and needed some help getting back up. It was one of those times for me when there was something calling me back into that situation.

I know it sounds repetitive but I think its important to notice what we notice. Have you ever been in a situation where are certain person or thing keeps coming to your mind? When that kind of thing happens we need to decide whether it is Jesus speaking to us or just our own voice.

I have noticed that when I write it off as my own, and hit isn't, that person or thing keeps coming back to my mind.

I think the image of Mary turning around and seeing that she was talking with Jesus is a beautiful one. She hears a voice, doesn't recognize it then does what we need to do in those situations... turn towards that voice and see if you recognize Jesus.
