The Trinity

Read through this a few times, its a tough but important concept to think through...

You may ask, 'if we cannot imagine a three-personal Being, what is the good of talking about Him.' Well, there isn't any good talking about Him. The thing that matters is being actually drawn into that three-personal life, and that may begin any time -- tonight, if you like. What i mean is this. An ordinary simple Christian kneels down to way her prayers. She is trying to get in touch with God. But if she is a Christian she knows that what is prompting her to pray is also God. God, so to speak, inside her. But she also knows that all her real knowledge of God comes through Christ, the Man who was God -- that Christ is standing beside her, helping her pray, praying for her. You see what is happening. God is the thing to which she is praying -- the goal she is trying to reach. God is also the thing inside her which is pushing her on -- the motive power. God is also the road or bridge along which he is being
pushed to the goal. So that the whole three fold life of the three-personal Being is actually going on in that ordinary little bedroom where an ordinary woman is saying her prayers. The woman is being caught up into the higher kinds of life - what I called Zoe (This is the Greek word for life) or spiritual life: she is being pulled into God, by God, while still remaining herself.

This is a slightly edited version of a passage from Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis. Italics and parenthesis are added.
